Classes Available at Alameda K9 Academy

Do you have a new dog in your life? Do you want to start them off on the right paw? Our canine classes are designed to give you the foundation you and your furry friend need to have a happy life together. From beginner courses to our advanced program, we will guide you through training your dog to respond to basic commands and even how to act properly while off of their leash.

We offer group and private classes year round. There are NO training waiting lists at Alameda K9 Academy because all of our classes are continuous entry. This means you and your dog can start training at your convenience.

We try to limit group classes to 12 teams plus the trainer but occasionally we exceed that number. Private lessons are offered in home or at many locations throughout the area. Private lessons are limited to a dog, handler, and the trainer or with multiple family members and/or dogs. Typically, lessons are once a week for 1 hour. All classes require owner to provide proof of vaccinations.

Service Dog Training

Alameda K9 Academy is dedicated to the enrichment of the lives of people with disabilities by developing our training criteria of service dogs through our Pets to Service Dogs Program. In order to provide an increased independence for the disabled person and/or for their care givers, ACI offers training for dogs already in the home of the disabled person whenever possible.

Alameda K9 Academy has developed one of the highest set of training standards in the service dog industry by adopting the principles of the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners (IAADP), American Kennel Club (AKC), and Canine Good Citizen programs. We also combined with recommendations of a leading medical community and ACI’s Behavioral Annalist to ensure that Alameda K9 Academy's training for service dogs are being met. All ACI standards and curriculums exceed the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.

We offer private training for owners and/or caregivers. Training includes teaching task training, such as retrieve dropped items, hearing alert, stability/mobility assistance, opening or closing doors, customized tasks, diabetic alert, and public access training.

Behavior Modification Programs

Behavioral problems are the result of inter-actions between your pet and its’ people, plus other elements in the dog’s environment. Solving a behavior problem is rarely simple; it requires your mental effort and often some emotional adjustments on the part of all family members to solve the behavioral problem. Each behavioral modification program is determined on a case by case basis.

Regardless how a behavioral problem was created, no guilt feelings are warranted, only a resolve to eliminate the problem is needed.

Duration varies based on the problem being solved. Most sessions are once a week for 1 hour. Training can take 12 weeks and sometimes longer.
